Frequently asked questions

Configuring production printing

Before you start sending orders to production stations, configure how your printers handle order dockets. This determines whether all printers receive all items or if specific items are routed to designated printers.

All items to all printers

This setting sends the full order docket to every connected printer. It’s ideal for smaller operations where all stations require visibility of every order.

To assign items to all printers:

  1. Log in to Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, select My site > Printers
  3. Under Production Printing, select All Items to All Printers.
  4. Click Save Settings
All items to all printers option under Production Printing in Back Office

Printer/Item Specific

This option allows you to control which printers receive specific products. For example, a coffee order can be sent only to the barista printer, while food items go directly to the kitchen printer. It’s ideal for larger venues, ensuring each station receives only the items it needs.

To assign items to specific printers:

  1. From the navigation menu, select My site > Printers
  2. Under Production Printing, select Printer/Item Specific
  3. Click Save Settings
Printer/Item Specific option under Production Printing in Back Office
  4. Locate your printer under Bluetooth Printers in this Site if you’re using Bluetooth printers, or under Network Printers in this Site if you use network printers.
  5. Click the cogwheel (Settings) next to the printer to configure its product assignments.

  6. From the list, select each category that you want this printer to print.
  7. (Optional) To select individual products within a category, click the down arrow next to the category to expand it, then select the specific products you want to assign to the printer.
  8. Click Save Settings.

Enabling simultaneous printing

Simultaneous printing allows all print jobs for an order to be sent to their designated printers at once, eliminating the delays of sequential printing. For venues with an impact or multiple printers, this ensures staff receive dockets and receipts faster and stay in sync during busy periods.

Simultaneous printing is available exclusively on iOS devices. If you're using the Intelligent Print Server method using both iOS and Android or web devices, simultaneous printing will only apply to orders sent from the iOS POS device where it is enabled. Orders sent from Android or web devices will not use simultaneous printing.

To enable simultaneous printing:

  1. From the navigation menu, select My site > Printers
  2. Under Advanced Printer Settings, toggle the Simultaneous Printing switch to enable.
  3. Click Save Settings

Simultaneous printing may cause issues for some venues using duplicate printers.

Duplicating a printer

Duplicating a printer allows you to print multiple copies of the same order or create split dockets. With split dockets, only the relevant products print on separate dockets for each assigned station, such as grill or salad, while still using the same printer.

To duplicate a printer:

  1. From the navigation menu, select My site > Printers
  2. Select the duplicate icon next to the printer you'd like to copy.

  3. Enter a name for the printer. We recommend naming it after the station, such as Kitchen-salad or Kitchen-grill.
  4. Click Duplicate to confirm.

  5. (Optional) To configure split dockets, follow the steps to assign printer-specific products. If no products are manually assigned, the duplicated printer will copy and use the original printer’s product assignment. Network Printers in this site in Back Office
  6. Manually sync the POS or sync registers from Back Office.

If you're using the Intelligent Print Server printing method, add duplicate printers by clicking the Add Printer button. For detailed guidance, refer to our guide on setting up a printer

Frequently asked questions

In what order are products printed on the docket?

Products print in the order they are entered in the POS, unless they have been assigned to a course. For online orders, products are also printed in the order they were entered from the online ordering app.

Do I need an intelligent printer for this setup?

No, setting up production printing doesn't require a specific printing method. However, if you’re using Intelligent Printing, ensure any duplicated or split printers are clearly and uniquely named.

Can I create separate production printing settings for each register?

Yes, you can. This guide covers the basic method for printing production dockets. For advanced customization, you can assign different printing rules to each register using register-specific production printing.
