With Lightspeed Restaurant, you can add or delete companies, sites, and registers to keep your setup aligned with your business needs. Each level plays a key role in organizing your operations across your locations and devices.

Adding or deleting a company

Companies in Lightspeed Restaurant allow you to organize your business into separate entities. You can create new companies as your business grows or remove existing ones when they are no longer needed. This section explains how to add a company and what to do if you need to delete one.

Adding a company

As your business grows, you can add a new company to organize your operations into separate entities within Lightspeed Restaurant. Each company can group multiple sites while sharing key settings such as products, taxes, adjustments, etc.

To add a company:

  1. Log in to Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials. 
  2. Click your site name in the lower-left corner.
  3. Select Manage Companies.

  4. Click Create a New Company.
  5. In the Company Details screen, enter the following info:
    • Company Name: The official name of your business entity. 
    • Business Number: Your registered business identifier, such as  your Australian Business Number (ABN) or New Zealand Business Number (NZBN).
    • Currency: The default currency used for transactions and reporting.
    • Website: The official website URL of your business. 
    • Tax Settings: This determines how taxes are applied to your transactions. Options include using tax-inclusive prices (tax already included in the listed price) or tax-exclusive prices (tax added on top of the listed price) on the POS.
    • Company Location: The primary physical address of your business or main office. 
    • Contact Details: Your company’s contact information, including contact name, phone number, and email address.
  6. Click Save.

Adding or deleting a site

Sites represent individual locations or branches of your business. Each site operates independently with its own settings and subscription. This section explains how to add a new site and the steps required to permanently delete one when it is no longer needed.

Adding a site is useful if you have multiple locations for your business. Each site can be configured independently to match the specific needs of that location. 

To add a site:

  1. Log in to Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials. 
  2. Click your site name in the lower-left corner.
  3. Select Manage Sites.

  4. Click Create a Site.
  5. In the Create a New Site popup, enter the site name. 
  6. (Optional) By default, the new site is added under the company you are currently logged into. To link it to a different company, click select another company for this site, then choose the company where the site should be linked. 
  7. Click Create.

Subscriptions are managed per site, and pricing may vary depending on your setup. For any pricing queries, contact your Lightspeed Account Manager.

Deleting a site

Deleting your site is permanent and cannot be reversed, so make sure this is the right and final decision before proceeding. If you’d like to retain your sales data, consider pausing your plan or exporting your reports from Lightspeed first. 

All active add-ons or subscriptions must be canceled before you can delete your site.

To delete a site:

  1. From the navigation menu, select Home > Subscriptions
  2. (Optional) If you have multiple sites, select the site you want to delete. 
  3. In the Delete site section, click Permanently delete site

Adding or deleting a register

Registers are used to process orders and are assigned to individual devices in Lightspeed Restaurant. You can add registers to support more devices or delete existing ones when they are no longer required. This section guides you on how to add or delete a register.

Adding a register

You can add as many registers as your business requires, with each register assigned to one device at a time. If needed, you can also recycle POS devices by reassigning a register to a different device.

To add a register:

  1. Log in to Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials. 
  2. From the navigation menu, select My site > Devices
  3. Click Create a New Register

  5. Click Create.

Deleting a register

You can delete a register if you have more active registers than needed. This may be done to reduce costs or to meet requirements when downgrading or canceling your subscription.

To delete a register:

  1. From the navigation menu, select My site > Devices
  2. Click the cog wheel (Settings) for the register you want to delete.

  3. (Optional) If the register was previously assigned to a device, go to Register status. Click Unassign register, then tap Ok.
  4. Click Delete register
  5. Click Save settings

Frequently asked questions

What happens to my data when my site is deleted?

Once you delete your site, all associated data is permanently removed from the system. It is recommended to export all necessary data prior to deleting your site. 

Would sales data made by the deleted register also be deleted?

No, sales data recorded under a deleted register is retained in the system. When viewing sales data by register, sales associated with the deleted register are marked with an asterisk (*) to indicate that the register has been deleted.

Do I need to create a new Lightspeed Account for each company or site?

No, you can create multiple companies or sites using the same Lightspeed account. 

Do I need to unassign a register before I can delete it?

Yes, a register must be unassigned from the device first before it can be deleted. This applies regardless if the device is online or offline.
