Lightspeed Restaurant (O-Series) works with a range of hardware to support your daily operations, from taking orders and processing payments to printing receipts and displaying orders. This guide covers the compatible POS devices, printers, cash drawers, barcode scanners, and payment terminals.

Before purchasing a new hardware or connecting an existing equipment, review the requirements for your setup to make sure the hardware is compatible with Lightspeed Restaurant. You can also select the links for each hardware type to view the setup instructions.

Purchasing hardware

You can purchase supported hardware directly from Lightspeed through our online stores. Lightspeed currently sells hardware for Lightspeed Restaurant (O-Series) in Australia and New Zealand.

Our online stores are tailored to each region and stock hardware that has been tested and verified by Lightspeed for use with Lightspeed Restaurant.

If you choose to purchase hardware from another supplier, we recommend selecting the supported models listed in this article to help ensure compatibility with your Lightspeed Restaurant setup.

Lightspeed Restaurant supports a range of hardware to meet different operational needs. Select a hardware type below to learn more about supported devices, compatibility requirements, and setup instructions.

POS devices

You can use compatible POS devices running on iOS, Android, or Windows. For the best experience, we recommend using a recent iOS device, as iOS provides the broadest support for Lightspeed features, add-ons, and payment integrations.

For iOS devices made by Apple, we recommend using these or newer devices. iOS 17 is the oldest supported software.

If your device or iOS version is older, we recommend updating or replacing it to avoid stability and compatibility issues. The iOS app offers the broadest and support for our features and integrations.

Lighstpeed Restaurant (O-Series) will maintain support for the latest version of iPadOS and the previous major release. At the time of writing includes iPadOS 18 and iPad OS 17. We do not recommend running public beta or preview versions of iPadOS.

While Lightspeed O-Series is compatible with the following systems, please note that certain features (including but not limited to Bluetooth printing) are not supported.

For the best experience, we highly recommend using a recent model iOS device. However, if you prefer other options, the following devices and operating systems are also supported:

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10" (SM-T510)
Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 (MI PAD 4)
Google Pixel 4XL and 5

Other devices should be compatible if they meet these specifications, but please note that there can be hardware limitations or software deviations on certain devices beyond our control.

Android Go and other cut-down versions of Android are not supported. Lightspeed Restaurant POS is also only available on Google Play Store and will not be made available on any alternative storefronts, nor will the .apk file be made available. We also do not support Android emulation software.

Lightspeed Restaurant (O-Series) is designed and optimized for use with Google Chrome (not Chromium-based browsers like Edge or Brave) on Windows 10 or higher.

If you are using a Windows or macOS computer for your POS register, you will need to use the Intelligent Printing method. Note that compatible printers for this method are becoming harder to find.

The Windows PC must be using an x64-based processor. We do not recommend or support any software package that emulates or virtualises Android or iOS.
