What you'll need
- A Lightspeed Payments account.
- A Smart Terminal, Smart Terminal with Printer, or Verifone V400m terminal.
- The Tables feature enabled in Back Office.
- The latest version of the Lightspeed Restaurant POS (O) app.
Configuring Pay at Table
To use Pay at Table, you must first enable the feature in Back Office. This setup includes activating the Pay at Table setting, configuring optional preferences such as bill printing or accepting cash, and updating the payment terminal's configuration.
Enabling Pay at Table
Users with admin permission can enable Pay at Table in Back Office. If you don’t have admin access, an admin user will need to grant you the Manage Lightspeed Payments permission before you can make any changes.
To enable Pay at Table:
- Log in to Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- In the navigation menu, click Integrations.
- Search for and select Lightspeed Payments.
- Under the Settings tab, scroll down to Pay at Table and toggle the switch to enable.
- (Optional) The following settings can be enabled as needed:
- Prompt to print bill: Enable this to prompt the payment terminal to print the bill before settling a table. This is available for both Smart Terminal with Printer and Verifone V400m terminal.
- Accept cash payments: Enable to allow Pay at Table transactions to be closed with cash payments.
- Manually sync the POS or sync your registers from Back Office.
Updating the payment terminal configuration
Whenever you make changes to your Lightspeed Payments account, such as enabling Pay at Table, you'll need to manually update the configuration of your payment terminal to ensure the changes take effect immediately.
Smart Terminals (with/without) Printer
- On the terminal touchscreen, tap Settings.
- Tap Config.
- Enter the admin PIN: 5773.
- Tap Update. The terminal will automatically restart and update its settings. This process may take several minutes.
- Press the 9 key, followed by the Confirm key (green circle) on the terminal's number pad.

Locating your staff reference number
To initiate a Pay at Table transaction, each staff member must use their unique reference number. This number can also be viewed or edited by navigating into Back Office under People > Users tab.
To find your staff reference number:
- Navigate to the POS.
- Tap the Help & Support button in the lower left.
- Scroll down and select Show my Staff Reference.
You'll see your reference number in a green banner at the top of the screen.
Checking out with Pay at Table
Once Pay at Table is enabled and your payment terminals are updated, you can use it to check out orders assigned to tables.
At least one POS register must be active and running the Lightspeed Restaurant app. If no registers are online, you will not be able to initiate Pay at Table transactions from the terminal.
Smart Terminals (with/without) Printer
To process a Pay at Table transaction:
- On the terminal touchscreen, tap the Pay at Table.
- Enter your Staff Reference Number.
- Tap Confirm on the screen.
- On the Select Table screen, choose the table associated with the order.
- (Optional) If you've enabled the Prompt to print bill, the terminal will ask if you want to print the bill before taking payment. Select Yes or No.
- Choose how the bill will be settled:
- Pay Total: Select when the guest wants to pay the entire bill in one payment.
- Split Unequally: Allows guests to split the bill by entering specific amounts.
- Split Equally: Splits the bill evenly among the number of guests paying.
- If Accept cash payments is enabled, select cash or card to complete the payment.
- Card: The terminal will prompt the guest to tap, insert, or swipe their card.
- Cash: The terminal will ask to confirm that the payment has been received. Tap Confirm to continue.
- (Optional) If the bill is split equally or unequally, the terminal will display any remaining balance so additional guests can pay their share.
After each payment, the POS will update automatically to reflect the amounts paid.

- Enter your Staff Reference Number.
- Tap Confirm on the screen or press the green circle button on the terminal keypad.
- On the Select Table screen, choose the table associated with the order.
- (Optional) If you've enabled the Prompt to print bill, the terminal will ask if you want to print the bill before taking payment. Select Yes or No.

No, customers cannot split the bill by product. However, they can split the bill unequally by entering specific dollar amounts.
No, Pay at Table requires an active internet connection to process payments on the payment terminal.
Yes, guests can pay part of the bill now, and the remaining amount can be settled later.
Yes, you can restrict access by removing the Finish Sale permission for specific users. However, this will also prevent them from finalizing any sales in the POS, not just Pay at Table transactions.
If surcharging is enabled, surcharges will automatically be applied to each payment amount during Pay at Table transactions.
