Setting up filters, devices, and screens
Configure filters, devices, and screens to determine which orders appear on each bump screen and how they are managed. For each setup, create a filter, assign it to a device, and then configure the corresponding screen. Repeat these steps for each additional filter.
- Filters: Assign which products appear on a screen. This allows you to direct orders to the appropriate area, such as the kitchen, bar, or barista.
- Devices: Add the device you'll use as a bump screen at your venue. Each device must be added directly from the device being set up. You can't add a device remotely from another computer, as the computer used to add it will be registered as the bump screen device instead.
- Screens: Configure how orders are displayed and managed at each station. Bump screens are used to cross out items and bump dockets as orders are completed, while pass screens mirror the orders shown on a bump screen. A pass screen is useful if one station needs to see what order appears on another bump screen.
Setting up filters
You can create filters to organize orders by the area or station responsible for preparing them, such as the kitchen, bar, or barista station. Each filter determines which products appear on its assigned bump screen.
To set up your filters:
- Log in to your Lightspeed Bump Screen portal.
- From the navigation menu, select Sites > Settings.
- Click Add Filter.
- Under the Screen section, configure the following for your bump screen and pass screen:
- Filter Name: The name for this filter.
- Number of dockets to display: The maximum number of dockets displayed on the screen at a time. For standard iPad devices, 6–8 dockets are recommended, while 12–16 dockets are recommended for 20- to 22-inch displays.
- Display long dockets: Displays one row of dockets at a time.
- Show Categories in statistics dashboard: Displays statistics by None, Category, or Course.
- Display statistics counter: Displays the count of all products on order, grouped by category and/or course.
- Mute sound: Mutes the filter's notification sound.
- Group products by: Determines whether items are grouped by Category, Course or None.
- Courses: Display dishes group by course.
- Font Sizes: Set the font size for Product size, Note size, and Statistics size. By default, these are all set to medium font size.
- Bump All: Adds a check mark next to each product name on the docket. Tapping the check mark tags all units of the item as complete at once. For example, a docket with 5× Flat White can be cleared with a single tap instead of five separate taps. The swipe gesture remains available regardless if this option is enabled or disabled.
- Click Save.
- Under Alerts section, configure your alert timings based on your target customer wait time:
- Minutes to the first alert: How long until the docket turns amber.
- Minutes to the second alert: How long until the docket turns red.
- Minutes to held alert: How long until a docket changes color while on hold.
- Click Save.
- Under Display-It, enable Show On Customer Display only if you have a customer-facing screen set up on an external device.
- Under Mobile Orders, enter how many minutes in advance you want an order to appear before its scheduled collection time. This applies only to scheduled online orders and does not affect POS orders. For manually entered orders on the POS, add the pickup details to the Notes section before sending them to the kitchen.
- Mobile ordering pre-order delay (Minutes): How far ahead of the pickup time the docket appears on the screen. For example, with a 30-minute delay, an order scheduled for pickup at 11:30 AM appears at 11:00 AM, giving you 30 minutes to prepare it. If no delay is set, the order appears at its scheduled pickup time.
- Additional pre-order delay per docket (Seconds): Adds this many seconds of delay to each docket already on screen. This allows you to see online orders earlier, giving you more time to prepare the order during peak periods.
- Click Save.
- Under Products, select the specific products or categories you want to appear on the screen.
- (Optional) Select Auto-add new products for a category if you want new POS products added to that category to automatically appear on the screen, then click Save.
- Under Registers, select the register to show dockets from, then click Save. Only select a register option here if you want dockets from specific POS registers only to appear on this screen.
- Under Order Types, select the order types to show dockets from. Only select an order type if you want this screen to show specific types of orders only.
Setting up devices
Once you’ve configured a filter, you can assign it to your bump screen device. Each device profile must be created directly on the device that will be used as the bump screen or pass screen.
To set up your devices:
- From your Lightspeed Bump Screen navigation menu, select Sites > Devices.
- Click Add Current Device.
- Under Create Device, enter a name in the Device name field. For example, you can name the device Kitchen, Coffee, or Front of House.
- From the Device Type dropdown, choose Bump or Pass depending on how you want the screen to be used.
- Configure the following permissions depending on how you want to use the device:
- Can Hold: Move a docket to a dedicated held section and retrieve it when needed. This is useful for managing courses or holding phone orders until a specific time.
- Can Bump: Bump dockets off the screen once an order is ready to move to the pass screen. This permission is enabled by default.
- Can Combine: Combine separate dockets into a single docket on the screen in real time. This is useful when a group places one order but pays separately.
- Can Undo: Restore a bumped docket from Order History to the position it was in before it was bumped.
- Can Batch: Group items for large batch cooking and then mark them off from multiple orders.
- Device independent bumping: Bump products from one screen without bumping that item on another screen.
- Click Save.
- (Optional) Under SMS, toggle Enable SMS to enable SMS notifications, then tap Save.
- (Optional) Under Printing, tap Add printer to connect your printer to your bump screen, then click Save.
Using the bump screen
To access the bump screen on your device, ensure it is connected to the internet and properly configured for your venue. Start by accessing the bump screen from the Back Office.
To access the bump screen:
- Log in to your Lightspeed Bump Screen portal.
- From the navigation menu, select Sites.
- In your site row where you're accessing the bump screen, select Go to bump screen.
Docket timers and colors
Set up alert thresholds to monitor the urgency of each order. Docket timers track how long an order has been active, with colors changing as the order reaches each alert threshold.
- Green: Active initial order.
- Amber: Order reached first alert threshold.
-
Red: Order reached second alert threshold (urgent).
Managing and bumping items
Bumping keeps your prep station organized and your screen updated in real time. Use the following controls to manage your active orders and customize your screen view.
- Bump an item: Tap the item name to bump that item only. Tap it again to undo. To bump all units of an item with a single tap, enable Bump All in your filter settings.
- Clear entire docket: Tap Bump at the bottom of the docket to clear it off the main screen.
- Collapse/Expand categories: Tap the down arrow on a category header to collapse or reveal items.
- Scroll or expand dockets: Scroll up and down within a docket to view more items. For dockets displaying SCROLL FOR MORE, tap the top of the docket to expand it into the right-hand sidebar instead. You can tap another docket to swap what's shown there, or tap X to close it.
- Filter by category/course: Select Category or Course on the quick action bar to display only items assigned to a specific category or courses. This shows Category or Course depending on how your filter is configured under Group products by.
- Filter by order type: Select Order Type on the quick action bar to view only one order type at a time.
- Check statistics sidebar: View the statistics sidebar on the left to view live items across all open category/course orders. As items are bumped, these counts update automatically.
-
Switch display theme: Change the display theme from the bottom of the left sidebar. Choose between Dark, Light, and C.Blind mode. C.Blind mode functions identically but changes the Bump button from green to blue.
Unbumping orders
You can retrieve previously bumped orders if an order was cleared by mistake. The docket returns to the exact position it was in when it was bumped based on its timestamp. Unbump only works if Can Undo is enabled on the device you're using.
To unbump an order:
- Tap Menu > Order History.
- Locate and tap the order you need to retrieve.
- Tap Unbump.
Holding dockets
Tap Hold to temporarily remove an order from your main screen without clearing it.
When you're ready to unhold and prepare the order:
- Select Hold from the left menu.
- Tap Unhold on the order you want to return to the main screen.
Unholding a docket returns it to the top of your screen. The order note turns blue and displays a count of how many times it has been held, and the timer restarts.
Combining dockets
Merge multiple orders into a single consolidated view. You can combine separate dockets when you want to view and manage their items together.
To combine dockets:
- Select Combine dockets.
- Tap each docket you want to merge. Selected dockets are highlighted and display a checkmark.
- Tap Combine to merge all items into one single docket card.
To separate merged orders, select Undo on the combined docket card, or select X in the header to cancel combine mode.
Accessing the production statistics report
The production statistics report provides an overview of your order volume and preparation activity for a selected reporting period.
To access the production statistics report:
- Navigate to your Lightspeed Bump Screen Back Office.
- From the navigation menu, select Reports. Here you can view your production statistics including:
- Total dockets bumped: The total number of dockets that have been bumped within your selected reporting period.
- Total products sold: The total number of products recorded as sold.
- Top 5 products sold: The five products with the highest number of units sold.
- Peak day: The day with the highest volume of orders or production activity during your selected reporting period.
-
Average bumped time: The average time taken to prepare and bump an order.
Troubleshooting
If you've changed devices and can't access the bump screen, remove the existing device and re-add it while connected to the correct Wi-Fi. This is because Lightspeed Bump Screen links access to the device's IP address, so any change to the device or network can disrupt your access.
To remove and re-add the device:
- Navigate to your Lightspeed Bump Screen Back Office.
- From the navigation menu, select Sites > Device.
- Tap the trash bin icon next to the device you're using.
- Tap Add Current Device.
- Tap Save.
- Follow the steps outlined here to configure your device.
- Navigate back to Sites.
- Select Go to bump screen.
For products or dockets to appear on your bump screen, they must be manually selected under the appropriate filter in your settings. Since venues can have multiple filters for different screens, new products won’t be automatically included even if they belong to existing categories unless Auto-add new products is enabled for a specific category in your filter settings.
To add products to the designated filter:
- Navigate to your Lightspeed Bump Screen Back Office.
- From the navigation menu, select Sites > Settings.
- Tap the pencil icon next to the filter where you need the products to appear.
- Under the Products section, select the categories or individual products to display them on the filter.
- Tap Save.
- (Optional) Select Auto-add new products next to the category to ensure any new items added in Lightspeed Restaurant automatically appear on the bump screen.
- Navigate back to Sites.
- Tap Sync POS.
