Enabling DHCP allows your printer to automatically obtain a valid IP address from your network. This ensures your printer receives the correct network settings for a stable and reliable connection with your Lightspeed Restaurant POS.
This guide walks you through understanding DHCP, checking the DHCP status of your printers, and enabling DHCP when needed.
If you're using an Epson Intelligent printer or the Epson TM-m30 series printer, you can also perform a factory reset, as these models default to DHCP enabled after resetting.

- A compatible Epson printer connected to the same router/network as your POS device.
- An iOS device running at least iOS 11, connected via Wi-Fi to the same router as the printer.
Understanding DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allows a device such as your printer to get an IP address from your modem or router. When this is disabled, the printer is hard-coded with a default IP address (192.168.192.168) which is not compatible with most networks. If your printer is unable to connect to your network, it will also be unable to connect to your Lightspeed Restaurant POS.
Checking the DHCP status of a printer
Before making any network changes, it’s important to verify whether DHCP is enabled or disabled on your printer. Checking the DHCP status helps ensure the device is correctly configured to connect to your network.
To check the DHCP status of a printer:
- Ensure the printer is powered on.
- Open the top cover by pushing the lever on the right side away from you, then lift the cover.
- Hold down the Feed button for at least 3 seconds.
- Close the cover. A status sheet will automatically print containing the network configuration details. If DHCP is disabled, the IP address will show 192.168.192.168.
Using a pen or paper clip, press and hold the reset pin on the back of the printer for 3-4 seconds, then release it. A status sheet will be printed. If DHCP is disabled, the IP address will show 192.168.192.168.
Holding the reset pin for more than five seconds may trigger a factory reset and erase all printer settings. Release it as soon as the status sheet starts printing.
Enabling DHCP on a printer
To enable DHCP on your printer, adjust the Wi-Fi settings on your iOS device and make sure it’s connected to the same router or network as your printer. This ensures you can access the printer’s configuration page using its hard-coded IP address.
To enable DHCP on a printer:
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- From the navigation menu, select Wi-Fi.

Tap the ⓘ symbol next to your Wi-Fi name.

Note the router number and write it down on a notepad, as you'll need
it
later.
- In the Configure IP dropdown, select Manual.

Enter the following details:
- IP Address: In this field, manually enter the IP address 192.168.192.167. The iOS device's IP address needs to end in .167.
- Subnet: Enter Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0.
- Router: Enter the router number you've written down in step 4.

Tap Save.
- Open your Google Chrome or Safari browser and navigate to http://192.168.192.168 . This opens the printer configuration page.

Tap Show Advanced then tap
Proceed to 192.168.192.168.
- Log in to the printer configuration page with the following credentials, depending on your printer model.
- Username: epson
- Password: The printer's serial number located on the sticker attached to the printer.
- Username: epson
- Password: epson

Under the configuration menu, select TCP/IP. Depending
on
your printer model, follow the steps below to enable DHCP.

Older Epson models: Set Get IP Address
to Auto, then tap SUBMIT.

Newer Epson models: Set
Acquiring the IP Address to Auto,
then tap Send.

Older Epson models: Set Get IP Address
to Auto, then tap SUBMIT.
- On the next screen, tap Reset to apply the changes.
- Restore your device's original network settings that were modified in steps 1-7.
